A note of caution about yardwork

With the spring  kittens almost all fixed we enter into the summer kitten phase.
I mention this because of the 5 new kittens we got from under the corner of  a raised house. The den was between two cinderblocks and was exposed when someone cut down the foot high grass. Fortunately he used a lawn mower but if he had used a weed whacker the outcome would have been deadly as the opening was 3 feet wide but only 11 inches deep (close enough for the new-borns to be mauled or killed by a whipping cord). If you are helping to clear any area where weeds or grass cover an over-hang, house or shed edge you may want to pull it forward to check for a feral cat den, possum nest or snake den. If you use a rake to lay the stuff down you can look into any recesses you find. Not only may you save a life but with an abundance of poisonous insects and reptiles indidgenous to the area that life may be your own.
